Falling for Fall Tag

I love fall. Hands down, fall is my favorite season. The weather is so nice, the air is so still, the leaves are falling, and Halloween. The thing I hate most about living in Texas is that we never get much of a fall. We finally got down below 80 degrees this past week, and I’m expecting maybe one more week of nice weather before it going permanently into the 40s. Also, when our leaves fall they just turn brown. So depressing.

But fall. Ah, I love fall! So when I saw the Falling for Fall Tag on The Introverted Book Nerd I just knew that I had to participate. I promise, it won’t all be pumpkin spice everything. 😉

What is your favorite fall scent?

Fresh air! This might sound ridiculous to those of you who living in cooler climates, but when the air is hot, you just can’t smell anything. Except, you know, burning pavement. But in the fall the air has this crisp, clean smell. I love it!

Do you prefer apple stuff or pumpkin stuff?

I guess it depends what kind of “stuff”, but I LOVE pumpkin pie! Pumpkin pie is one of my very favorite foods. Anything that tastes even moderately like pumpkin pie is a-okay with me! But I prefer apple spiced drinks, I think.

What is the one thing you look forward to every fall?

Um, there is not just ONE. I look forward to ALL OF IT! But especially fall decorations. And by fall decorations, I mostly mean Halloween decorations. Don’t tell, but mine usually stay up til the Christmas stuff comes out.

How do you like to spend the more chilly/cloudy days in the fall?

Our chilly days aren’t typically cloudy. Most of our thunderstorms and rain come in the spring and early summer. But on the rare occasion clouds DO come out I get a weird craving for cookies. Why? I don’t know.

Which do you prefer, Halloween or Thanksgiving?

That’s not even a contest. Just about the ONLY thing I really look forward to on Thanksgiving is the pumpkin pie. But I love EVERYTHING about Halloween! I love the decorations, the costumes, the candy, the family-atmosphere, the movies, the carnivals, EVERYTHING! Halloween is the bomb-diggity!

What is one way you embrace the fall season?

By pulling out my hoodies and sweaters. While I have to say that I wear cardigans year-round (teachers don’t get to wear sleeveless dresses to work, so cardigans are my friend) I love breaking out the heavier sweaters and especially my hoodie. I’ve also got this great bomber jacket now! Too bad it won’t zip over my pregnant belly…

What photos would you like to take this fall?

I always have to have a family-costume Halloween photo! Fortunately for you all, Halloween has already happened, so you get to see it!

I’ll also treat you to photos from the last two Halloweens! You’re welcome.

Favorite childhood memory of this season?

I’m really starting to sound like a broken record, but I remember loving dressing up for trick-or-treating. Picking out the perfect costume was always a really big deal for me! One year I was Pocahontas, and my mom sprayed my hair black. I thought I was so cool!

I also remember so fondly raking leaves with my dad. He always let us jump in the pile and never griped about making more work. I have the funenst dad! And the neighborhood I grew up in was practically a forest, so there were always so many leaves! We would usually do the whole thing two or three times! Those are some of my best memories, and I’m sad that I won’t have anything like that with my kids. Stupid new subdivision with baby trees.

What is your favorite fall fashion trend of this season?

I don’t really keep up with this stuff, so I don’t know what’s going on this year specifically. But I enjoy boots of all sorts.

Describe what the fall weather looks like where you live.

Aside from nice temperatures (60-70 degrees F), we usually get bright sunlight that doesn’t burn. And the air gets so still. It’s hard to describe, but what I associate the most with fall is quiet. Everything is so still that you can hear the birds cawing at each other.

Fall is really winding down, especially where I live, so I don’t want to tag anyone. But if you love fall, this tag is for YOU!

  1. I love your costumes! So great! I also love pumpkin pie!!! It’s my favorite! I see you’re from Texas. I’m moving there in January. Not sure how I’ll handle the weather change coming from PA where it’s usually pretty cool. (We’ve had snow on the forecast 3 times now this week and twice more this upcoming week, though it hasn’t happened.) But definitely much cooler than Texas weather!

        1. I hope you like weird! Haha. Texas is an interesting place. We’re all very proud of living here, as if it’s a philosophy or way of life instead of just a location. Also, I strongly encourage you to mentally/emotionally prepare yourself for chili without beans.

  2. Nice answers. I would choose Halloween over Thanksgiving too. I love the decorations and the costumes. My mom is all about Thanksgiving though. She loves the food, time with family, and football. So I appreciate both holidays.
