Harry Potter Week Day 1: Hogwarts Tag

So I just found out reading one of my favorite blogs, Modern Witch’s Bookshelf, that not only is it Harry Potter’s Anniversary Week, but Weird Zeal is hosting an event!

Harry Potter celebrated his 20th Anniversary last year, but THIS is his 20th Anniversary in the US. Now, I’m not usually the sort to make a big deal out of stuff like this, but after reading Samantha’s blog post I checked out what Weird Zeal is up to this week, and it’s so much fun that I couldn’t NOT participate! I’m supposed to be doing something completely different right now, but OH WELL!!!!

So today is Day 1, which is the Hogwarts Tag. Now, I already did the Hogwarts Tag last summer, read here, but this one is slightly different, so here I go!

The Hogwarts Tag

The Rules:

  • Link back to one of Weird Zeal‘s post so that she can see all participation!
  • Tag your friends and tell them to join as well!
  • Have fun 🙂

1. What house are you in?

Proud Ravenclaw! “Wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure.”

2. What is your patronus?

According to Pottermore my patronus is a West Highland Terrier. That’s right, a freaking Westie. I’ve always considered my patronus a beaver. Busy, hard worker, that sort of thing. But patronus’s are funny because they don’t really convey your personality as much as they do a part of who you are. Harry’s, for example, is a stag not because he is stag-like, but because of his deep connection to his father. So I’m going on the record and saying that NONE OF YOU FOOLS KNOW WHAT YOUR PATRONUS WOULD BE!

3. What is your wand?

pottermore wand

Cypress wood, Phoenix feather core, 10 3/4 inches, hard flexibility.

Evidently cypress wood chooses witches and wizards of nobility, the brave, bold, and self-sacrificing, and those unafraid to address the dark side of themselves. Yeah, that’s totally me. (Not.)

Phoenix feather cores are the rarest cores. They are hard to win over, but once you do have the most versatility. Good. I like a challenge.

My wand is short because I’m short. It’s not flexible because I’m stubborn. lol

4. What would your boggart be?

Same as Molly Weasley’s. Something about becoming a mom, man, it changes you. Sometimes on my way home from work I just call my husband bawling because I’m scared that something bad is going to happen, apocalypse style, and I won’t be able to protect my kids. The other night I lay awake for an hour because I can’t get past the fear of my baby having surgery in the fall. It’s a routine procedure, nothing to worry about, but what if he’s the one in a million? Guys, something happening to my kids just TERRIFIES me.

Sorry for getting all heavy there. Let’s lighten it up, shall we?

5. What position would you play in Quidditch?

Fan. Me + sports = NO

6. Would you be a pure-blood, half-blood, or muggle-born?

I always answer this question the same way. My mom is a big Harry Potter lover, but my dad’s never read a book or seen the movie. So I figure myself a half-blood. 🙂

7. What job would you want to have after graduating Hogwarts?

There are two careers I would be hard pressed to choose between. I think it would be really cool to research and develop new spells. Like, how does that even work? I MUST know! I would also adore apprenticing with Ollivander and making wands. I don’t know, there’s just something so cool about being the person making that beautiful little piece of wood that is going to change some kid’s life!

8. Which of the Deathly Hallows would you choose?

Um? To run as far away as I can?

The Invisibility Cloak seems like the safest one, but let’s be honest, I’m not doing anything sneaky in my life! Probably the stone.

9. Favorite book?

I’ve always loved The Prisoner of Azkaban the best. I’m a huge sucker for time travel, and I also really enjoyed the first insight into James’ and Lilly’s life. Plus, Hogsmeade!

10. Least favorite book?

I still don’t know if I’ve forgiven J.K. Rowling for killing Sirius. I don’t know what it is, he’s not even my favorite character, there was just something about it that totally wrecked me. Plus I never liked how dark and angsty book 5 is. Order of the Phoenix has always been my least favorite.

11. Favorite film?

The first one. It was the least stupid.

12. Least favorite film?

All of them. But especially the third, because they ruined my favorite book. Jerks.

13. Favorite character?

It’s no secret that I’ve always strongly identified with Hermione. When I was 11 I just instantly connected with her. Then growing with her as the series progressed was so personal. When I read Hermione I feel like somebody finally GETS me.

14. Least favorite character?

I wouldn’t consider myself a hateful person. It’s not an emotion I ever feel in real life. But guys, when I even THINK about Bellatrix Lestrange my blood just boils. Literally. I can feel the anger rushing in my head. I HATE that woman!

15. Favorite teacher at Hogwarts?

McGonagall is my hero, especially now that I’m a teacher myself! I envy how she holds a class’s attention, and manages to actually teach them, even the reluctant kids, even in a hard class. I envy how she is strict but never loses her temper. And she’s fair. I aspire to be just like her!

16. Least favorite teacher at Hogwarts?

I see the Umbridge elephant looming, and I do really dislike that woman, but I’m ready to rock the boat.

My least favorite teacher is easily Severus Snape.

Here we have a man who uses his position of power to literally bully students. Neville’s boggart doesn’t take the form of the people who tortured his parents to insanity. No. It takes the form of Severus effing Snape. I don’t care what good things he did, I don’t care who he loved, I don’t care about his stupid redemption arc. None of that matters to me because none of it made him a better enough person to stop taking his anger with a DEAD MAN out on CHILDREN. Snape is guilty of child abuse, and we idolize him?!?! No! No no no.

17. Do you have any unpopular opinions about the series?

See above, lol.

Also, this one seems to be pretty unpopular. I really enjoyed The Cursed Child. I liked the timey-wimey stuff, particularly when it came to the Butterfly Effect. A lot of people criticized the playwrights because they didn’t like that Hermione when not married to Ron became a spinster-y teacher, but I loved the idea that one little thing can change everything.

18. If you could save one character from the final battle, who would you save?

Everyone! Seriously, how am I supposed to pick one person? Do I pick Fred because he’s my favorite? Or Colin Creevy because he didn’t deserve to die? Or Tonks because every baby needs a father? No, I can’t pick one.

I’m not tagging anyone a) because I’ve already done a very similar tag and b) because this is a one day event! But if you’re a potterhead check out Weird Zeal’s event and think about joining in for the rest of the week!

  1. Omg! I’m fangirling right now that one of MY favorite blogs called me her favorite ☺️☺️☺️
Also- that is SUCH a great way of looking at your bloodline! I had no idea how to answer that question but your reasoning makes SO MUCH SENSE.
Also also- I agree with you on your unpopular opinion (#1). I really dislike snape’s character and think that his redemption didn’t really redeem anything. He was still mostly terrible. I can’t agree about Cursed Child though (*shivers*)

  2. OMG I had no idea it was Harry Potter week! I am a proud Hufflepuff myself, but I always identified with Ravenclaw as well. Hermione was such a role model for me growing up (a strong girl who loved school and loved to read, I mean she’s amazing!) but I also have a soft spot for Luna.

  3. Lol I hated all the movies too and liked Cursed Child. I read it after all the hype blew over and thought it wasn’t bad. I’m not a fan of time travel, but I appreciate getting Draco’s opinion about their time at Hogwarts.

  4. Go Ravenclaw! 💙 I totally agree on what comes to the third movie! I get it that as the story was moving onwards, everything was getting darker, too, but WHY ruin such an amazing book? And that also happened in the fifth one! 🙈 Lmao… I love to hate Bellatrix!
