Thanks to Flavia for tagging me in the Secret Life of a Book Blogger Tag! It’s kind of a get-to-know-the-blogger sort of tag, but with an outrageously fun header created by Maddie at Munch Reviews. Flavia is pretty amazing, and if you for some reason aren’t following her you need to. I just started following Maddie thanks to this tag, but she seems pretty amazing so far, so go check her out too!
1. How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been book blogging for just over a year now. Before that I had a couple of other blogs that I didn’t really put much time into, they were just an outlet for my own thoughts and stuff, so this is the first one that’s really been a BLOG, if that makes sense. It’s been a great year, I absolutely LOVE my blog!!
2. At what point do you think you’ll stop blogging?
Um????
Like seriously, how am I supposed to know something like that? I don’t have any plans to stop blogging, but it would be ridiculous to think I’ll be doing this til the day I die.
3. What is the best thing about blogging?
I just really like having people to talk to about my books! My friends and family aren’t much for reading, and they definitely don’t read many of the same things that I do. So commenting on people’s blogs and having them comment on mine is such a nice book-club substitution.
I also love that blogging has got me reading a LOT more, and I’m reading so many more things that I love! Being involved in this community has made me a lot more aware of amazing books that I probably would never have found otherwise, and the process of blogging has made me a lot more aware of what I like and what I don’t.
4. What is the worst thing? What do you do to make it okay?
It sucks when I can’t think of anything to write! I try to do discussion-ish posts once a week, and sometimes I just don’t have any ideas. I’m not much of an ideas person, honestly, I’m more of an executor. I get ideas from other people and things.
What do I do to make it okay? Nothing??? I just either write a crap post (just finished one just now! lol) or I don’t write anything at all. No big deal. This is a hobby for me, so I try not to sweat stuff like that.
5. How long does it take you to make/find pictures to use?
Seriously, that’s the most time consuming part of a post.
6. Who is your book crush?
Yeah, I don’t really GET that… Even when I was a teen I didn’t have crushes on book characters. But if I had to pick I guess I would choose Mr. Darcy?
7. What author would you like to have on your blog?
I would just die and go to fangirl heaven if Rainbow Rowell ever came within six feet of me or my blog. Also probably Naomi Novik. But that’s never going to happen, so let’s do our best to keep our blood pressure down, shall we?
8. What do you wear when you write blog posts?
Whatever I’m wearing. I am a mom of two with a full-time teaching job. I blog whenever I have thirty minutes free. Sometimes it’s in the morning when I’m all dressed up for work, sometimes it’s the evening after a run in my gross sweaty work-out clothes, sometimes after my shower in my PJs, sometimes just in the middle of the day.
9. How long does it take you to prepare?
It depends on the post, really!
I know that’s like, the most cliche thing you could possibly say, but it’s so true. For me, though, it’s less about the writing and more about the formatting. The more THINGS to put in a post, the longer it’s going to take. Reviews are usually my fastest posts, because the words typically just come spilling out of me. The word-vomit is SO REAL. I spend more time editing them than writing them! But there’s not much formatting there, so I get em DONE! But tags take FOREVER because there’s headers, and pictures to find, and the wordpress media manager SUCKS, and there’s a million and a half links to put in, and tagging people takes a million years. You get the picture.
10. How do you feel about the blogging community?
Did anyone say something other than amazing things here? Is it necessary to gush? Or can we all just fill in the blanks?
Seriously though, I love you guys. You make my life happier.
11. What do you think one should do to create a successful blog?
Yeah, I’m not the right person to ask about that. I have zero concern in being “successful”. I’m here 100% for FUN. I don’t care about stats, ARCs, making money, being notable, or any of that shenanigans. Which is probably (definitely) why I’m still enjoying everything about this process so much!
So if your definition of success is loving blogging and looking forward to doing it every day, my advice would be to be carefree.
Holy crap, now I have to tag people. Oh geez.
I tag:
- The Orangutan Librarian
- Mousai Books
- A Modern Witch’s Bookshelf
- Darque Dreamer Reads
- Anyone else who wants to!
Awesome tag 🙂 thanks for the tagging me!
