I was tagged by Victorious Pages for this tag quite some time ago, but just hadn’t gotten to it yet. But it’s feeling perfect for me to do it now. I’ve been in a very Harry Potter mood ever since I started listening to MuggleCast. Really enjoying the chapter-by-chapter of Book 6! Maybe once I’m done with grad-school that’s something I could do on my blog…
1. Favorite Book
Definitely Prisoner of Azkaban! I love me some time travel, and getting the Marauder’s backstory was so amazing. Lupin is my favorite DADA professor (obviously), they win the Quidditch Cup, Hogsmeade was a cool addition, and it’s the most grown-up of the lighthearted early books.
2. Least Favorite Book
I love all the books, but The Order of the Phoenix is always at the bottom of the list. It’s the darkest in tone, and I just personally prefer happier, fun books.
3. Favorite Movie
Unpopular opinion time. I don’t actually like the movies.
There. I said it.
But if I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be the first. It’s the most similar to the book, leaves out the fewest things, and I just remember how magical it felt seeing Hogwarts come to life when I was 11! Plus, it has the best music.
4. Least Favorite Movie
Ugh. Even if I liked the movies, I still wouldn’t like Prisoner of Azkaban. Why don’t they ever wear their uniforms? Direct book quote here, “Their children might don Muggle clothing during the holidays…” They DON’T don muggle clothing at any other time. Also, why do none of the adults but the professors wear wizarding clothing in this series? Sorry, getting side-tracked. It’s just stupid that the director decided to try make Hogwarts seem MORE like our world, when the whole thing we love about Hogwarts is how different it is. Also, Sirius and Lupin got completely jipped in the movie, and there is no Quidditch. No.
5. Favorite Quote
“Wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure.”
6. Favorite Weasley
I love all the Weasleys, but Molly is hands down my favorite. I love how she takes Harry in as one of her own, and not just because he was famous, or because she feels sorry for him, or because he’s Ron’s friend. She genuinely cares for him. And she is willing to do anything to protect her family.

7. Favorite Female Character
It’s no mystery that I’m a Hermione fan! I love that she loves to read. I love that being a bossy know-it-all made her feel alienated but she found friends anyway. I love that she grows as a character. I love that she is such an amazing friend. I love everything about her.

8. Favorite Villain
I’m going to interpret this as the villain I love to hate, rather than the one I hate the most. I love to hate Umbridge. She’s so vile and horrible, but unfortunately believable.
9. Favorite Male Character
Um… Harry?
10. Favorite Professor
I admire McGonagall so much. She can command a room’s attention and seems to have few discipline problems, and I just want to learn everything about that from her. She also seems to be an outstanding teacher in a difficult subject. And while she is stern and strict, she does care about her students, and shows that she believes in them.

11. Would you rather wash Snape’s hair or spend a day listening to Lockhart rant about himself?
Well I hate Snape even more than I hate Umbridge, so definitely listen to Lockhart. At least I’d have a funny story to tell.
12. Would you rather duel an elated Bellatrix or an angry Molly?
Well, obviously I don’t want to duel Molly. We’re on the same side.
13. Would you rather travel to Hogwarts via Hogwarts Express or flying car?
The flying car is obviously an unenjoyable way to get to Hogwarts. It’s hot, there’s nothing to eat or drink, and then you have a disastrous crash landing. No thanks. I’ll take the cushy train any day!

14. Would you rather kiss Voldemort or give Umbridge a bubble bath?
Ew! Neither! But if I had to pick, I guess give Umbridge a bath. She seems like the less likely of the two to kill me or anyone I know.
15. Would you rather ride a Hippogriff or ride a firebolt?
I love horses, so riding a Hippogriff would be so cool! But I am going to have to go with firebolt. The flying experience is so smooth and that’s something I’ve always wanted to do.
16. Is there a character you felt differently about in the movies?
Only that I felt apathetic toward them because they didn’t get any screen time or character development. So, basically, everyone who isn’t the trio, a Weasley, or Dumbledore…
17. Is there a movie you preferred to the book?
Heck no.
18. Richard Harris or Michael Gambon as Dumbledore?
Honestly, I don’t really think either is quite right. Richard Harris was too old, and his Dumbledore was pretty infirm. But Michael Gambon was too energetic and aggressive for a character who is so calm and level-headed. I think somewhere in between would have been just right.
19. The top thing (person or event) that wasn’t in the movie you wanted there the most.
I’m so far removed from the movies that at this point I can’t even remember what was in them and what wasn’t. I remember being upset about a lot of the things they left out, but I don’t remember what any of them actually ARE. Peeves or Pigwidgeon, I guess.
20. If you could remake any of the Harry Potter movies which would it be?
All or none, I say.
21. Which house was your first gut feeling you’d be part of.
Ravenclaw. Obviously.
22. Which house were you actually sorted into on Pottermore?
Ravenclaw. Fun fact, I was actively involved in the Pottermore community for a solid two years, and was a big part of the group that pushed for Ravenclaw to finally win the house cup! We won twice in a row, only house that ever did. Not that I like to brag. 😛
23. Which class would be your favorite?
Hard to know for sure, but I think probably charms. Those seem to be all of the most useful and interesting spells.
24. Which spell do you think would be the most useful to learn?
I think I speak for everyone in the world when I say I need accio in my life. If I could summon things to me, my husband would be a much happier person.
25. Which character do you think you’d instantly become friends with?
Again, Hermione. We are so much alike. Maybe we’re too much alike and that would have caused us to hate each other…
26. If you could own one of the three Hallows, which would it be?
Isn’t the moral of the story that none of the Hallows are really good to own? Trying to cheat death isn’t healthy. But, again, if I had to pick, I’d probably go with the invisibility cloak. It seems to be the least dangerous, and I could pass it down to my sons.
27. Is there any aspect of the book you’d like to change?
I feel like Ron gets a bad rap. In the first book Rowling wrote the trio as an excellent team that balanced each other out. Ron was the strategist. But in later books (especially the fourth and seventh) he was kind of a drama-queen, and so many of his good qualities got overlooked. That’s why so many people hate him and Hermione, in my opinion.
28. Favorite Maurauder
I’m not really sure, we didn’t get to know them very well. Growing up reading the books I always like Sirius the best, but I couldn’t really explain why. These days I guess I would pick Lupin, but he’s got some issues too. I still really wish we could get to know them better!
29. If you could bring one character back to life, who would it be?
Easy. Fred. The absolute worst part of everything post-Deathly Hallows is imagining George alone.
30. Hallows or Horcruxes?
Neither? Obviously NOT Horcruxes.
I’m tagging Samantha @ Modern Witch’s Bookshelf, because I know she would want me to. 🙂
Loved reading all your answers!!!

This is really fun. And interesting to read other perspectives. You still hate Snape after everything you learn about him? Did you read the Cursed Child?

Yes, still hate him. To me it doesn’t matter that he loved Lily, he still abused the children he taught. Nothing can forgive that.

YASSSS 💕 and this is sooo different from the other “ultimate” tags I’ve seen.. thanks for the tag! I agree with you about Ron kinda being hated for being the drama queen in the later books. I think it would have been much better if jk had just written him with strong strategy skills- that way each trio member had their own strengths that didn’t outweigh the others…
And YESSSSSSSS to your comment about prisoner of Azkaban movie. Everyone made fun of me for being irrationally angry at the fact that they all of a sudden weren’t wearing robes anymore..glad I’m not alone in that!

Haha, it was so strange to me! And you’re welcome!

I’m so glad you finally got the chance to do the tag! 😊
Prisoner of Azkaban is by far the darkest movie for me! And my least favourite! And hell yes! Rom started out as the strategist (with the whole wizard’s chess and everything) and from book 5 onwards turns into a drama… king! 🙃

I understand why you don’t like the movies – they had to leave so much out of the stories, and there’s not much consistency because of the changing directors, locations, actors etc. I admit I still enjoy the movies but would rather read the books any time!

I think you’re right with the change of directors, though I can’t say I’d thought much about it before. I also feel like a lot of my favorite characters (like Ginny and Ron) didn’t get much character development and you never really got to know them!

I think so, they seemed a bit 2 dimensional. I always thought the books should be a TV series instead and then they could have more plot and character development from the books.

I really enjoyed reading all your answers… I completely agree about the books being waaaaaay better than the movies! And Umbridge is definitely my most favourite villain, too!!

Prisoner of Azkaban is one of my favourites and order is definitely my least favourite. Yeah I’m not keen on the movies either. I love to hate Umbridge too! And Ravenclaw for the win!

Richard Harris was made to be Dumbledore. he channeled the spirit of laid back and devil may care attitude of the book Dumbledore.

He WAS a great Dumbledore! Just, in my opinion, he wasn’t quite lithe enough of limb by the time the movie was made.
