Sorting Hat Sunday: The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet

Sorting Hat Sunday (1)

Rosemary awkwardly watched the older kids laugh and yell at each other and literally bounce of the seat. She had just been sitting here, minding her own business, when that especially bouncy girl, Kizzy maybe?, walked right in and told her they were going to be best friends. Then all of her friends piled in too.

So, here she was, part of this group somehow. But she smiled. She kind of liked them. Especially Sissix. She liked the way Sissix kept patting her leg without much worry about personal space.

Also, how was it that nobody seemed weirded out that the compartment was talking to them? I mean, that couldn’t be normal, right?

Rosemary

So… I’m probably going to end up sorting everyone into Hufflepuff, because this entire book is about friendship and all the characters are so dang NICE. It’s pretty much inevitable. So I may as well start off with Rosemary. She’s definitely neither brave or ambitious. And while she seems intelligent enough, she really wants to find people. She cares about friendship and doing the right thing.

Ashby

I mean, honestly. This guy’s whole thing is that he’s humble and he accepts everyone exactly the way they are.

Sissix

The thing I like about Sissix is that she is willing to stand up for herself and what she believes in. She’s confident in herself, and she doesn’t worry too much what others think about that. She still has that loyalty and she’s a great friend, just like everyone else in this book, but what really puts me over the edge for this choice is the scene where she gives a feather to the outcast. Pure chivalry.

Kizzy

Kizzy brings Rosemary into the fold on day one, no questions asked. She is the sort of person who wants to make everyone feel welcome, and will do anything for her friends. She is deeply loyal to Ashby, and is even willing to put aside her usual boisterousness when he needs her discretion. While she has her moments of valor in this story, when I think of Kizzy I think of a friend.

Jenks

Meh, just for the sake of rounding out this crew, let’s go a little different here. Jenks. Jenks wants something. I don’t want to spoil what, but he wants it BAD. Trouble is, it’s not legal. In fact, it’s so illegal, it will danger not only himself, but everyone around him. And not just anyone could pull it off. But Jenks can. Because when Jenks really wants something, he makes it happen, no matter what.

Corbin

Corbin is definitely not a Hufflepuff! In fact, he doesn’t really get people. He likes to spend time by himself WORKING. Working on his nerdy science stuff.

Sorting Hat Says: RAVENCLAW!

Dr. Chef

This is a dude whose goal in life is to make everyone happy and healthy. And he wants to do it by making them delicious food. Also, he’s willing to listen to literally anyone about literally anything. Did I mention the food bit? Because we all know whose Common Room is down there by the kitchens…

Ohan

Well, to avoid spoilers we’ll just start with the Ohan we meet at the beginning of the book, shall we?

Ohan is a Sianat pair, so he is defined by his willingness to do literally anything for enlightenment.

Lovey

Oh Lovey. How do you sort a computer? Like, I know she’s intelligent and she has her own personality and she’s basically sentient, but the fact that she’s a computer has to weigh in too, right? Is she a Ravenclaw because she is essentially infinitely intelligent? Or does her loyalty to her crew and especially Jenks make her a Hufflepuff? And she’s so dang sweet! (That has nothing to do with sorting her, just had to say it). I don’t know, I’m going with my gut here.

  1. I love The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet! That book and whole series was such a delight to read. Sissix is for sure a Gryffindor! Ooh Lovey is a hard one and I’m not sure where i’d place her.
