Calendar Girls April Wrap-Up

Well, I’m sorry, I don’t have much to say today. I am still a little (a lot) hung over from End Game. Buuuuut imma keep it all in, because I know not everyone has seen it yet. DM me on Twitter or Insta if you want to talk, because I might EXPLODE if I have to keep it in much longer.

Calendar Girls? Books? *hums absent-mindedly* I guess April is over or something.

Favorite Book with a Surprise Ending or Twist

Ender’s Game – Katie (that’s me!) @ Never Not Reading
Odd & True – Adrienne @ Darque Dreamer Reads
The Empress – Teri Polen
We Were Liars – Deanna @ Deanna Writes About
Behind Her Eyes – Lucinda @ Lucinda is Reading
Behind Her Eyes – Sam @ Modern’s Witch’s Bookshelf
Illuminae – Dani @ Mousai Books
Father Figure – Sophie @ Beware the Reader
Nerve Damage – Sophie @ Beware the Reader
Girls of Paper and Fire – Clarissa @ Clarissa Reads it All
Our Dark Duet – Ashley @ Inside My Minds
The Wicked Deep – Flavia @ Flavia the Bibliophile
The Cruel Prince – Lindsey @ Lindsey Reads

Our Favorite Pick Is…

So I know next to nothing about We Were Liars, mostly because it’s one of those books that nobody wants to talk about it for fear of spoiling the whole thing. But whatever, I’m always here for that mysterious easy spoilability stuff. Congrats Deanna for picking the winning book this month!

Calendar Girls Book Chat

This month we had a great time over on Twitter talking about what makes plot twists and surprise endings so exciting. It seems the general concencus is that we want a book to catch us completely off-guard and hate when books are predictable, but we all disagree about what makes that happen. Which is fascinating.

If you want to catch up you can follow the hashtag #CGBchat OR you can check out the threads below. 🙂

Calendar Girls May

The May theme is Mother’s Day: Favorite Book with a Mother/Daughter Relationship. I’m looking forward to reading what everyone has to say, because so many of us read primarily YA and that genre is notorious for absent parents. I’m also really looking forward to May because I think my pick is going to be suuuuuuper controversial. *evil laughter*

Our May schedule is:

  • Monday May 6th – Calendar Girls May Posts (don’t forget to link back to me and Adrienne!)
  • Sunday May 12th – Voting ends for the June theme (you can still vote HERE!)
  • Monday May 13th – Adrienne and I will announce the April theme
  • Monday May 20th – Friday May 24th – #CGBChat
  • Monday May 27th – May Wrap-Up

Thanks again to all who participated. I know I haven’t been around much lately, but summer is right around the corner! I’m literally counting the days. Thanks for being my beacon of light. Love y’all.

Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and is now be hosted by me (!), Katie, and Adrienne at Darque Dreamer Reads. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl.

Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and I will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!

  1. *psst* I’ve read Endgame, and will totally gush in DMs.

So many of the books I’ve thought of for the Mother’s Day prompt turned out to mostly be mother/son relationships. I guess they’ll just be in my honorable mentions section.
