Oh my word, I can’t believe that May is finally over! I don’t know about anyone else, but I am completely jazzed for summer. I can’t wait to spend some time with my kids, hopefully get some extra reading done, and of course, another month of Calendar Girls!
Best Book with a Mother/Daughter Relationship
The Fault in Our Stars – Katie (that’s me!) @ Never Not Reading
Snow White – Adrienne @ Darque Dreamer Reads
Certain Girls – Deanna @ Deanna Writes About
Little Women – Clarissa @ Clarissa Reads it All
Little Women – Ashley @ Inside of My Minds
American Panda – Flavia @ Flavia the Bibliophile
Vampire Academy – Dani @ Mousai Books
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Lucinda @ Lucinda is Reading
Our Favorite Pick Is…
I don’t think anyone will be surprised to hear that our favorite pick was Little Women! I know I was not alone in kicking myself for not even thinking of it! Little Women is one of my all-time favorite books, and Marmie’s special relationship with each of her daughters is no small part of that. So congrats to Clarissa and Ashley for being so much cleverer than the rest of us and picking the best book of the month!
Calendar Girls Book Chat
We had a great time on twitter last week talking about moms and daughters in books! If you missed the chat feel free to chime in! You can always follow the hashtag #CGBchat or by following the tweets below.
Calendar Girls June
I can’t wait to talk about Pride with you all! I know we’re going to get massive variety from this month’s theme, and anyway it’s obviously important for us to talk about. Personally I’m going to have a hard time deciding between two books, and I’ve got some serious thinking to do in the next two weeks!
Our June schedule is:
- Monday June 3 – Calendar Girls June Posts (don’t forget to link back to me and Adrienne!)
- Sunday June 9 – Voting ends for the June theme (you can still vote HERE!)
- Monday June 10 – Adrienne and I will announce the July theme
- Monday June 17 – Friday June 21 – #CGBChat
- Monday June 24 – June Wrap-Up
Thanks again to all who participated! I know I probably say it all the time, but Calendar Girls is one of the things I look forward to most every month. I love chatting with you all about books, and you all always have the most interesting choices! I’m sorry I haven’t been around that much lately. Hopefully this summer I’ll have more time for chatting. ❤
Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and is now be hosted by me (!), Katie, and Adrienne at Darque Dreamer Reads. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl.
Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and I will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!
