Calendar Girls August Wrap-Up

Is August already over? On the one hand, geez, where did the time go? On the other hand, thank god. This month has been sooooo stressful for me! Evidence, completely missed both of my posts on the Calendar Girls chat this week. My new job is difficult, guys. Send happy vibes my way.

Calendar Girls has been great this month, though! I don’t know about y’all, but I’m always happy to find an excuse to gush about my favorite book! And I’ve really enjoyed listening to y’all talk about yours too.

Book Lovers Day: Best Book You’ve Read This Year

Our Picks:

Bel Canto – Katie (that’s me!) @ Never Not Reading
The Poet X – Adrienne @ Darque Dreamer Reads
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo – Lindsey @ Lindsey Reads
Aurora Rising – Teri Polen
The Merciful Crow – Dani @ Mousai Books
Sorcery of Thorns – Sophie @ Beware of the Reader
Skyward – Sophie @ Beware of the Reader
Salt to Sea – Sophie @ Beware of the Reader
The Wicked King – Flavia @ Flavia the Bibliophile
Sadie – Deanna @ Deanna Writes About
American Princess – Clarissa @ Clarissa Reads it All

Our Favorite Pick Is…

Good gravy, how many times has The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo won for a Calendar Girls prompt? Is this the THIRD time??? If there was a book award given out by bloggers, this one would definitely win, lol. We love this book. If you haven’t read it yet, it’s time to think about changing that. (And I think it’s time for me to think about a re-read…)

This month was a bit slow on the chat. I know it was my first week back at school, so I’ve been pretty scarce online this week. But we had a great time talking to Deanna about our favorite books of the year! If you still want to catch up, you can follow the hashtag #CGBchat or just click on the direct links to the tweets below.

Calendar Girls September

Our September Theme is Pirate’s Life for Me: Favorite Book about Pirates. I’m going to go ahead and use this as a second to remind everyone that Erin Morgenstern’s new book, The Starless Sea, is apparently about books AND pirates. *dies* Is it okay for me to pick that even though I haven’t read it yet? lol

Our September schedule is:

  • Monday September 2 – Calendar Girls September Posts (don’t forget to link back to me and Adrienne!)
  • Monday September 9 – Adrienne and I will announce the October theme
  • Thursday September 19 – National Talk Like a Pirate Day
  • Monday September 30 – September Wrap-Up

Thanks again for being with us each month, guys. Truly, the more stressful my life gets the more I value y’all’s friendship. I probably wouldn’t even be blogging right now if it wasn’t for Calendar Girls, but thank goodness I am because you guys help keep me sane. Love y’all.

Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and is now be hosted by me (!), Katie, and Adrienne at Darque Dreamer Reads. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl.

Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and I will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!
