Wow, I can’t believe September is already over. It’s still 90s degrees here in Texas. I have to say that I am READY for October. Like, literally, I am prepared. We’ve already got Halloween costumes…
We had a great month with Calendar Girls talking about books about pirates. The overwhelming consensus is that we love pirates, but most of us haven’t read very many books about them. So Imma take a second and (once again) plug Erin Morgenstern’s new book The Starless Sea which is at least partly about pirates. CAN’T WAIT!
Pirate’s Life for Me
Favorite Book About Pirates
Our Picks
Treasure Island – Katie (that’s me!) @ Never Not Reading
Daughter of the Pirate King – Adrienne @ Darque Dreamer Reads
Seafire – Liz @ Stellar Kitten Book Reviews
The Princess Bride – Dani @ Mousai Books
These Rebel Waves – Flavia @ Flavia the Bibliophile
Our Favorite Pick is…

The Princess Bride!!! I love this book almost as much as I love the movie. If you’ve been following me for very long, you’ve probably heard me gush about it before. While it’s not necessarily all about pirates, the Dread Pirate Roberts plays a big (and very humorous) part. I highly recommend this classic.
Calendar Girls October

The October Theme is Pumpkin Lanterns: A Book that Lit Your Way Out of a Reading Slump. I admit I have never suffered from the dreaded reading slump, so I’ll have to think a bit creatively about this one. I’m quite looking forward to seeing everyone’s answers, though, because it’s bound to be a wide variety. 🙂
Post Schedule:
- October 7 – Calendar Girls October (don’t forget to link to me and Adrienne!)
- October 14 – November Theme
- October 28 – October Wrap-Up
- October 31 – HALLOWEEN!!!!
Thanks again everyone who participated this month! As we’re getting deep into the tough times of the school year, I really rely on y’all to keep me sane. Thanks for always being there for me, guys, and especially thanks to Adrienne for putting up with me when I’m slacking off as a co-host.

Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and is now be hosted by me (!), Katie, and Adrienne at Darque Dreamer Reads. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl.
Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and I will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!
Dread Pirate Roberts 🙂 I’m so glad they got shut-down about a movie remake!

Oh my gosh thank god! Last I heard it was still planned. There’s no reason to re-do what is already perfect. (Now if only we could get Disney on board with that thought process…)
