Discussion: What makes you anticipate a new release?

At the beginning of the month or at the beginning of a new season I tend to see a lot of “Anticipated New Releases” posts. A lot of the time I’m not particularly anticipating the same books as everyone else (probably because I anticipate so few new books and don’t really keep up with book news). So at the beginning of this month looking at all these posts got me thinking, What DOES make me anticipate a new book?

If it’s written by an author I love?

Mmmmm, maybe. I won’t lie, that whenever I hear Naomi Novik has something new coming out I get pretty excited, but I don’t really do the auto-buy-author thing. If I love the author I’m more likely to be excited about a book, but I still have to be interested in the concept or story.

Calendar Girls January: Most Anticipated 2019 Release

Happy 2019 Calendar Girls!!!

This month we’re talking about our most anticipated releases of the year. I’ve already seen a lot of posts on this subject, and y’all, it’s going to be a GREAT year for books. Oh my goodness.

While picked one most anticipated release was not at all difficult for me, it did give me pause that I was skipping over all the other amazing books without even thinking! So I want to take a second to shout-out a few other books I’m super excited for.

 

Slayer and The Winter of the Witch come out THIS WEEK!!!! AH!!! I’ve got the both pre-ordered, though since I ordered them from Barnes and Nobel they likely won’t be here til the end of the week. Children of Virtue and Vengeance, the sequel to Children of Blood and Bone is scheduled to release in March, and will probably be a rare cover-reveal post from me. Because, let’s be honest, it’s going to be fabulous. Daisy Jones and the Six is also scheduled for March, and I’m already hearing a lot of great buzz for it.

I also read somewhere that Doors of Stone, the final book in The Kingkiller Chronicles, and The Mirror and the Light, the final Thomas Cromwell book, are rumored to be coming out this year. I’ll believe it when I see it.

But none of those holds a single candle to my most anticipated release of the year. When I heard about this book in November and read the tantalizing synopsis, guys I lost it. There is literally zero chance I will not love this book. The only question is will I survive waiting for its November release date????

WOW!!! You guys! It’s 2019!!!

It’s going to be an amazing year. One of my splurges on myself this year for Christmas was a subscription to Book Riot Insiders. Or course the first thing I wanted to do was dive into the New Release Index! How are there so many amazing books coming out every week?!

Calendar Girls January Theme

I don’t know about anyone else, but we’re getting in the full Christmas spirit at my house! My oldest son is especially excited about Christmas, and every day he puts a new ornament on his advent calendar and then very enthusiastically counts how many days are left.

Calendar Girls December: Favorite Book of 2017

It’s almost hard to believe that December is already here! Almost… And as we’re wrapping up the year it makes sense to think about our favorites of the year.

Full disclosure before I start, I don’t typically read a lot of new books. Since I’ve started this blog I’ve read a WHOLE LOT MORE new books than I usually do, but my final total for the end of this year still only comes out to 10.

I think it’s also worth noting that my absolute favorite book this year was not actually new. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell has so far been the winner, and at this point is unlikely to be be displaced. If you’re interested, you can check out my Top 10 books of the year here. I know people have mixed feelings about Rainbow Rowell books, and Fangirl in particular, but it just felt like it was written just for me. I adored it.
