Six Degrees of Separation: Fight Club to The Martian

6 degrees

Six Degrees of Separation is a monthly blog event hosted by Kate at booksaremyfavoriteandbest. It’s inspired by the 6 Degrees of Separation, a movie game where you attempt to connect actors in six movies or less. But we do it with books!

This month we’re starting with Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk.

I haven’t read Fight Cluband I don’t really have any desire to read Fight Club. Much like The Sixth Sense, I know the twist at the end, so I feel like the book is basically ruined for me. Fight Club is unique to me, however, because I feel like the movie is so much more well-known than the book. In fact, I would guess that many fans of the movie didn’t even realize it was a book first! Another movie I think lots of people probably don’t realize was a book first is…

Mid-Year Freak Out Tag – 2018 Edition

I did this tag last year, and I was so much fun! It was maybe the first book tag I ever did? Can’t remember for sure… Anyway, I was surprised to see it going around again this year. Does it make the rounds every year? I wouldn’t know, I guess I’m still a bit of a book blogging newbie. 🙂

Anywho, after seeing it on a couple of blogs, I decided to tag myself. Which, I am happy to say, Kay at Hammock of Books invited me to do, so there.

Yeine Darr is an outcast from the barbarian north. But when her mother dies under mysterious circumstances, she is summoned to the majestic city of Sky. There, to her shock, Yeine is named an heiress to the king. But the throne of the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms is not easily won, and Yeine is thrust into a vicious power struggle.

I didn’t really care for The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, but I think most of the things I didn’t like were personal preference, rather than a problem with the book.

Reddit Book Exchange 2018

secret-santa-logo

Did you know that the people who run reddit also run a gift exchange? www.redditgifts.com is like Secret Santa all year long, but they offer a variety of exchanges you might like to participate in. For example, I REALLY want to do the sock exchange, because socks are the bomb diggity, but my wallet is like NOPE! It looks like they have 13 different exchanges going on at the moment, including Fantasy, T-shirts, Dr. Who, and yarn.

Once a year reddit gifts hosts a book exchange. This was my third year to participate, and it’s one of the things I really look forward to each year. I love sharing some of my favorite books with other people, and getting books I maybe would never have picked up otherwise. I was GOING to post a “hey this is coming up you should participate!” post, but then I *hem* kind of ignored my emails and almost missed it myself. Maybe next year…
