3 Year Blogoversary!

Happy (late) Blogoversary to me!

I missed by Blog Birthday completely because someone May is already halfway effing over. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, but the first six weeks of stay-at-home issues dragged by, so I’m not sure where the last two weeks went. How did they blow by so fast? Anyway, thankfully The Orangutan Librarian (who I adore, btw) mentioned in her blogoversary post that we are blog birthday buddies and reminded me that it is, in fact, halfway through the month. Thanks friend!

Things are a little different here on Never Not Reading than when I started. Boy, how my life has changed. I’m at my fourth job since I started the blog, and starting a new career as a librarian. I am NOT reading anyone else’s blogs, which I hate but will hopefully change in the next week or so. I’m reading a lot more variety.

And, let’s be honest, I’m running out of blogging steam.

I don’t have three year’s worth of sage wisdom to offer you, but I have learned one VERY important thing. I started blogging to make friends and talk about books, which I did for a solid year and a half. But for the last eighteen months I haven’t been a part of the community. Not really. Being in grad school plus commuting plus being a parent, I just haven’t had time. And you know what? Blogging isn’t fun anymore. I enjoy writing posts and I really enjoy talking to my regular commenters (Davida, Becky, Kay, LA, Book Beach Bunny, Yesha, Jennifer, Dani), but the whole process was so much more fun when I was reading other people’s stuff.

Blogging isn’t about followers. It isn’t about creating cool content. It isn’t about ARCs. Not to me, anyway. Blogging is a conversation, and a conversation goes two ways. I see a lot of people advising new bloggers to read and comment on other people’s blogs to increase their own traffic. It’s good advice, it works. But the real reason to read and comment on other people’s stuff is that it’s fun. Other people are smart, and funny, great friends, and in all other ways amazing. I love my friends I’ve made blogging, and I can’t wait to go back to reading y’all’s content soon.

    I agree it’s all about connecting with bloggers not just to increase followers but to have fun and bond and enjoy doing what we do here. And who can deny ARCs! Everyone loves them. 😁

        1. I just read a lot of older books in general. I almost never read the hyped stuff, either because I’m not interested or because I wait to see if the hype lasts. I guess I’m more interested in reading awesome books than being an influencer, lol.

    1. Yeah, it’s hard to keep the motivation going through grad school. Looking forward to getting back in the community, because I know that will inspire me and give me books to add to my tbr. 🙂

    And … I feel you! I, too, am waay behind on reading friends’ posts and responding in a thoughtful way. And I, too, have been amazed by how many clever, funny, amazing writers there are out there in the blogosphere!

  16. Happy Blogversary!!! I think my old blog would have been three years last fall, time flies, but since I started over, everything went back to square one – lol.

    1. Just out of curiosity, why did you start over? Full disclosure, I’ve had like, five separate blogs over the years, and this is the only one I’ve kept up with longer than six months.

      1. Oh, it’s not a secret, I started solo, then merged with a blogging partner, we read all the same books and authors, but over the last two years MY reading taste changed a LOT!!! It was time to take the next step, I also want to include more than just books into this blog eventually.

        1. I don’t think I could work with a partner. It’s so much extra work collaborating with others. But on the other hand, my reading tastes are kind of all over the place, and having a partner might help me cover more ground. What are you hoping to include in your blog? (sorry, just followed you so this seems like faster way to find out than reading all your backlogged posts, lol)

          1. oh no worries!! I think that’s probably the area that would make sense the most when it comes to blog partners, a bigger verity of books. I’m going to add some travel (some bookish travel) and photography to it. Some bookish crafts and products too. I’ll let it evolve over time, and see what people are interested in. 😀
