Happy 2019 Calendar Girls!!!

giphy (2)

This month we’re talking about our most anticipated releases of the year. I’ve already seen a lot of posts on this subject, and y’all, it’s going to be a GREAT year for books. Oh my goodness.

While picked one most anticipated release was not at all difficult for me, it did give me pause that I was skipping over all the other amazing books without even thinking! So I want to take a second to shout-out a few other books I’m super excited for.

Slayer and The Winter of the Witch come out THIS WEEK!!!! AH!!! I’ve got the both pre-ordered, though since I ordered them from Barnes and Nobel they likely won’t be here til the end of the week. Children of Virtue and Vengeance, the sequel to Children of Blood and Bone is scheduled to release in March, and will probably be a rare cover-reveal post from me. Because, let’s be honest, it’s going to be fabulous. Daisy Jones and the Six is also scheduled for March, and I’m already hearing a lot of great buzz for it.

I also read somewhere that Doors of Stone, the final book in The Kingkiller Chronicles, and The Mirror and the Light, the final Thomas Cromwell book, are rumored to be coming out this year. I’ll believe it when I see it.

But none of those holds a single candle to my most anticipated release of the year. When I heard about this book in November and read the tantalizing synopsis, guys I lost it. There is literally zero chance I will not love this book. The only question is will I survive waiting for its November release date????

So without further ado, my most anticipated release of 2019 is…

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

That’s right, boys and girls, Erin Morgenstern has a new book! Let the fangirl screaming commence!!!

And it sounds like it’s going to be just as magical as The Night Circus while still set in our world. Check out the synopsis:

Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a strange book hidden in the library stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Bewildered by this inexplicable book and desperate to make sense of how his own life came to be recorded, Zachary uncovers a series of clues — a bee, a key, and a sword — that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to a subterranean library, hidden far below the surface of the earth.

What Zachary finds in this curious place is more than just a buried home for books and their guardians — it is a place of lost cities and seas, lovers who pass notes under doors and across time, and of stories whispered by the dead. Zachary learns of those who have sacrificed much to protect this realm, relinquishing their sight and their tongues to preserve this archive, and also those who are intent on its destruction. Together with Mirabel, a fierce, pink-haired protector of the place, and Dorian, a handsome barefoot man with shifting alliances, Zachary travels the twisting tunnels, darkened stairwells, crowded ballrooms, and sweetly soaked shores of this magical world, discovering his purpose — in both the mysterious book and in his own life.

I don’t want to speak for anyone else, but I’m dying waiting over here, and I’ve still got eleven months to go, lol.

Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and is now be hosted by me (!), and Adrienne at Darque Dreamer Reads. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl.

Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and I will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!

Check in next week for our December theme!

          1. Yeah, I don’t know. I do seem to remember seeing that someone in our group disliked it, but I can’t remember who. I could see how someone wouldn’t enjoy it because it is slow and detail heavy, but I loved the details. I bookmarked all the non-story, circus bits to go back and re-read back to back later.

  1. I’ve had The Night Circus for years, but still haven’t read it. Sadly, I’ve also had Children of Blood and Bone for a couple of months, but haven’t gotten to it either – hoping for next month.

  2. I have been waiting for a new Erin Morgenstern book for YEARS. I am so excited about this release.

And oh my goodness, if the Doors of Stone release turns out to be more than just a rumor then I can move the Kingkiller Chronicles onto my TBR. I already know I’m going to love them, but I didn’t want to read them and then join everyone else in agonizing over the wait for the third book.

  3. Dawlyn: Ahhhh see I still need to finish The Night Circus! I started it on audiobook because Jim Dale, who beautifully narrates the Hart Potter Series also narrates it. Sadly, he wasn’t doing it for me with The Night Circus. I’ve heard so many good things about it though so I’ll have to try reading the physical copy!

    1. I feel like such a poser, though, because I never watched the entire show. I was just BARELY too young to watch it when it was first on, so I never got into it then. When I finally got into it as an adult I already had kids, so I never found the time to watch the whole series. I’ve only watched the first three seasons.

      1. Did you enjoy the first three seasons? I would hardly say a poser, Buffyverse is for anyone! I dislike when fans exclude people who who don’t know “enough” about shows/books/bands etc. If you like something, no matter how you *choose* to like it, welcome! Enjoy!
